On to Oregon

When we left Banff, we drove west through the spectacular mountains in British Columbia.  This is as far as we got in 1970. We decided to head home after we got a little freaked out by bears in our campsite!  We found the Illecillewaet Campground where we camped, but thankfully there were no bears there this time.

We made a short stop in Revelstoke National Park to take a walk on the Giant Cedars Boardwalk,  among the virgin rainforest cedars - beautiful - it felt like a prehistoric forest. Places like this truly soothe the soul.

Our last stop in Canada was at the Hidden Chapel Winery.  A previous owner built the 8 seat chapel and conducted services there, but the current owner said now it was there for the gods of wine!  The wine country in BC was a new discovery for us. It's a beautiful area we'd love to explore more.

Getting across the border was a little slow. We got picked for a random, more thorough inspection. We just had to sit and wait while they inspected the car.  They may have been discouraged by the amount of stuff in the car and decided we didn't look like smugglers, because after a short while and a few more questions, they let us go on our way. That was a new experience for us!  We were happy to finally arrive at my aunt and uncle's home near Portland, Oregon.  We had a wonderful visit with them, and we got to see my cousins Doug and Paul, and Paul's son William.  We had a terrific couple of days with them. Thank you Dodo & Duane!

My handsome cousins Doug & Paul.
And my wonderful aunt and uncle, Dodo & Duane.

After leaving Oregon and driving into California, we were greeted by Mt. Shasta.  Our first view of it included a beautiful double rainbow, but it wouldn't hang around long enough for us to get a good photo.

Our next few days include a stop at Lake Tahoe, a visit to Yosemite, and a visit to Mammoth Lakes to see my niece Laurel.  Lots of good stuff coming up!
