Montreal

What a great time we had in Montreal yesterday!  It is a wonderfully diverse city - multicultural, with a beautiful mix of modern and historical architecture.  We loved it and hope to go back again later in the week.

Our first stop was Saint Joseph's Oratory.  It was built by Brother Andre in the early 20th century.  He was canonized in 2010, and millions of people visit it annually. Brother Andre was revered for his healing powers, so we put in a good word for friends and family in need.

After a stop at an overlook where we could see almost all of Montreal, we went to Old Montreal. You know you're there when you feel the cobblestones.  It's a picturesque area, with lots of shops, restaurants and artists.  We found a marvelous place to have lunch and enjoy some very French crepes.

Next on the agenda was an hour long boat ride on the St. Lawrence River.  Montreal is an island, so it gave us great perspective.

After the boat tour we went to the Montreal Botanical Gardens.  This was an amazing place. We could have spent the whole day there.  They had a special display of plant mosaics - huge figures made entirely out of plants and flowers - not temporary like a Rose Parade float, but growing.  They were simply jaw-dropping!  Another plus was looking across the street and seeing the Olympic Stadium and Tower.

Our last stop was at the Notre Dame Basilica.  They have a music and light show that is spectacular.  It is their very special way of telling the story and history of the Basilica.

It was a long day, but we enjoyed every minute of it.  We decided to have a more low key day today and stick around here.  I took advantage of a special and got a Swedish massage, then Jim joined me in the spa garden which had hot tubs, a dry sauna, and steam room, and we finished it off with a swim in the pool.  We're very relaxed right now and our only dilemma right now is what to have for dinner.

The view across the road from our building.  Not too hard to take! This is a beautiful area.
