Northumberland

Winding down our stay in the UK, we spent a night on the coast in a picturesque walled town called Berwick-Upon-Tweed.  We found a great B&B hotel called the Rob Roy. It was such a charming little room I had to include a photo. Love that cozy "fur" throw on the bed - just right for a nap.

We explored the town a bit before moving on.

We drove the coastal road on our way to Newcastle.  There are numerous castles and ruins, but the most impressive one is Bamburgh.  We never get tired of castles!

We stopped in at a beautiful little hotel cafe and had tea and scones with cream and jam - the perfect local treat. I could eat this every day, but probably shouldn't.  Moving on down the road, we were admiring all the beautiful bright yellow fields.  It is rapeseed (canola) and it makes every photo a little better!

This gal looks like she's saying no-o-o-o-o!  Go-o-o-o away!

Our drive ended in Whitley Bay, where we enjoyed a really great visit with one of Jim's canoeing buddies. He and Julian have shared many adventures on their Quetico trips, and it was so nice getting to meet his family. They were wonderful hosts and we had a lot of fun there.

Jim and Julian enjoying a stroll on the North Sea.

Julian was gracious enough to take us to the ferry port so we can board the ship. Next stop - Amsterdam!!
